I’ve been hemmin’ and hawin’ a long time over what to put in this ‘about’ section.
Do I tell you that I’m both a vintage lover and a nature freak so making these mushroom ornaments is just a perfect marriage between the two?
Do I talk about how the current condition of environmental affairs has me in a constant state of anxiety over the imminent doom we are creating that I feel completely helpless to stop most days and so it was imperative for me to do the very best I can as a small business to offset my negative contributions?
Do I admit that in all honesty a big part of me just wanted to create something the old fashioned way- with my hands- and hopefully be able to make a little money along the way?
The truth is all of these things.
Reshroomed is just me, Paige, cutting and sewing and stuffing and shipping. Each mushroom is made with vintage and/or secondhand fabric that probably used to be a dress or a curtain. The insides are filled with the stuffing from old pillows and toys (I make sure to only select things I think will most likely end up in the landfill. The microplastic that stuffing is made from wreaks havoc on the environment so it was important to make this as sustainable as possible.) My shipping supplies (except for the tape) are all made from recycled materials and are themselves recyclable and biodegradable. I donate a portion of each sale to charity.
